From the Home Team—Building Your Content Strategy
We’ve spent the last few weeks covering the foundations of doing business online—understanding digital marketing channels, knowing your audience, and building trust. Today, we’re diving into another important aspect of online marketing: creating a content strategy that works for you.
A content strategy is a plan that outlines how you will create, share, and manage content to achieve your business goals. For those with a New Earth business, this means developing a strategy that will not only engage your audience but also guide them toward making a purchase.
Why is a Content Strategy Important?
In the crowded digital world, it’s easy for your message to get lost among the noise. That’s where a strong content strategy comes in. It ensures that your content resonates with your ideal audience, aligns with your business goals, and consistently drives results.
But how do you create a content strategy that works? Let’s break it down into key steps.
1. Define Your Goals
Before creating any content, you need to know what you’re trying to achieve. Are you aiming to build awareness of your business, generate new leads, increase sales of specific products, or encourage more subscription purchases? Your goals will shape the type of content you create and how you measure success.
For example, if your goal is to increase sales of your favorite New Earth product, you content might focus on educating your audience about the benefits of that product, showcasing customer testimonials, and sharing your personal experiences with it.
2. Know Your Audience (Again!)
In a previous installment of this series, we discussed the importance of knowing your audience. This is a crucial part of your content strategy, too. Your content should always be tailored to meet the needs, interests, and challenges of your audience. Consider what questions they have, what problems they need help solving, and how products from New Earth can offer solutions.
Take time to revisit your customer avatar (or create one if you haven’t already). What kind of content will resonate with them? Do they prefer detailed blog posts, quick videos, or infographics? Once you have this information, you can start crafting content that speaks directly to them.
3. Choosing the Right Types of Content
Your content strategy should include a mix of content types that work best for your audience. Here are a few examples:
- Blog posts: Write informative articles that help your audience understand how New Earth products can solve their problems. Consider creating long-form blog posts that go deep into the benefits of specific products or wellness topics.
- Videos: Videos are a great way to engage your audience. You can create product reviews, “how-to” videos, or share behind the scenes content of your wellness or business routines. Live streams and Q7A sessions are also great for building real-time connections with your audience.
- Email Newsletters: Keep your audience updated with valuable content through regular email newsletters. Share educational tips, blog updates, or special promotions. Your email list is one of your most powerful assets, so nurture it with valuable content.
- Social Media Posts: Use social platforms like Instagram or Facebook to engage your followers with posts, stories, and live sessions. Share tips, personal stories, and updates to keep your audience engaged and connected.
4. Create a Content Calendar
Consistency is key when it comes to content. Creating a content calendar will help you stay organized and ensure that you’re consistently showing up for your audience. Plan out your content for the week or month ahead of time, deciding what types of content you’ll share and when.
A content calendar also allows you to align your content with important dates, such as promotions, holidays, or seasonal themes. This helps you stay on track and ensures that your content aligns with your business goals.
5. Repurpose and Reuse Content
One of the best ways to maximize your content’s value is to repurpose it. For example, turn a blog post into a video, or share a snippet of the video you made on your social media platforms. Repurposing content helps you reach a wider audience while also saving you time and effort.
6. Measure and Optimize
Last, but certainly not least, you will want to keep track of how your content is performing and if it is helping you reach your goals. We will take a deeper look at this next week, but in general, it’s a good idea to look at metrics like post engagements, email opens, affiliate link clicks, and total sales to see if your content strategy is working the way you want it to. If it’s not, then it’s time to revisit your customer avatar and content plan to see where you can make changes to make it more effective.
