From the Home Team—Ideas for Link Sources
As we’ve recently been talking about, adding sources to your personal referral links is easy and impactful. And since your options for adding sources to your links are open-ended, it can sometimes feel difficult to determine what you want to name your source. So, to wrap up this mini series about sources, we want to share a few source ideas that you may find useful.
- If you are posting the link on social media, you can use the name of the platform you are using, such as Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn.
- If you are using the link in an email newsletter, you can use a source with the name of “email” or “newsletter,” or you can even be more specific and use “email newsletter.”
- If you write a blog and want to use a link there, you can use “blog” as your source.
- If you are a guest on someone else’s blog or podcast and want to track sales specifically from that, you can use the name of the blog or podcast you appeared on as the source.
- If you are running paid ads on any advertising platforms, you can create a source for each of those ads, such as “google ads” or “pinterest ads.”
- If you are using links on printed marketing materials, you have a few options. If you want to group all of your printed marketing materials into the same category, you can use a source named something like “print” or “handout.” If you want to be more specific, you can create sources for each of the items in this category, such as “business card,” “brochure,” or “flyer.”
- If you are planning to be a vendor at an event and want to add a tracked link to materials you are handing out there, you can use the event name as your source, which will allow you to track the traffic and sales that came specifically from that event.
Once you have started using sources on your links regularly, the system will start collecting data from each link that you can then review and use in your business making decisions, which we will dive into in another issue of Reach.
