From the Home Team—Why Add Sources to Your Referral Links

If you’ve spent any time generating product or category specific links in your Business Portal, then you’ve likely seen that you have the option to add a ‘source’ to the links you create. And if you’re wondering what exactly that means and how you can use it for your business, then you’re in the right place because that is exactly what we are going to discuss over the next few weeks.

First and foremost, let’s start with defining what a ‘source’ is and why you may want to use this option.

When we are talking about links, a ‘source’ is a tracking tag that is added onto a link to help provide you with valuable information that you can later use to help inform your business and marketing strategies. In the most simple terms, this tracking tag can help you uncover how your various marketing efforts are working and which of your efforts are helping your business the most.

This means that by adding sources to your links, you will be able to look back at your business reports 3 months, 6 months, or a year in the future and easily see which of your business efforts during that time period resulted in the most website traffic, referred sales, and/or commissions for your business.

For example, let’s say that currently you are sharing your business on Facebook and Instagram as well as sending out a regular email newsletter to your email list. If you simply use your referral links without adding a source, then 6 months from now you won’t be able to tell which of these three efforts brought in the most sales for your business.

However, if you take the extra few seconds to differentiate these links by using sources, you will be able to look back in 6 months and see if your email newsletter resulted in more sales or if your efforts are paying off more on Facebook or Instagram.

With this information, you can then reevaluate your business practices to ensure that you are putting more time and energy into the channels that have the best chances of converting new customers and spend less time on channels that don’t seem to be paying off.

Now, the question is: How exactly can you add sources to your links? We’re going to break it down for you next week, so stay tuned.
