From the Home Team—Creating Your Content Plan

Over the last few weeks, we have been diving deep into social media. We’ve discussed why you should be using it for your business, covered the basic information you need to know, and broken down the best practices you should follow. Today, we are going to wrap up this conversation with the fun part of the process—creating and implementing a content plan!

Crafting a well-thought-out plan for what kind of content you are going to post on social media and when you are going to post it is the cornerstone of successful social media marketing. That’s why today we are going to help you create a content plan of your own.

Don’t worry, this process doesn’t need to be difficult or complicated. In fact, we are going to make it as easy as possible. Simply follow the steps below and before you know it you will have a content plan that is ready to be executed.

Step 1: Answer These Questions

  1. Which platform(s) will you be posting on?
  2. How often will you post (once a day, five times a week, etc)?
  3. What kinds of posts will you share (educational, personal, business operations related, promotional, entertaining, inspirational, etc)? Helpful tip: you can (and should) pick more than one! We recommend three to five.
  4. What kinds of media will you include in your posts (text only, images, videos, links)?

Step 2: Brainstorm Ideas

Now take your answers to questions 3 and 4, and start brainstorming ideas for posts you can make that fall into those categories. For example, a post about the health benefits of AFA would be educational and can be done in video format by simply filming yourself talking about the algae. Grab a piece of paper and brainstorm as many post ideas as you can for each category and media type you chose.

Step 3: Put It On the Calendar

Now that you have a list of post ideas to choose from, grab a calendar because it’s time to plan everything out. Whether you choose to schedule content weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, now is the time to sit down and decide exactly what you will be posting and when. Pull from the list of ideas you just wrote down during your brainstorming session and put them on the calendar. For example, if you are posting three times a week, your calendar may look something like…

  • Monday: Share something about yourself and include a photo or selfie.
  • Wednesday: Educational video about AFA.
  • Friday: Promotional post with an image of your favorite product and information about it

Step 4: Create and Post

Now that you have a plan for what content you will be posting over the next week or more, it’s time to create that content so it’s ready to post! Take the photos or videos you need so they are ready to go. Then, you can set an alarm on your phone to remind you to post on those days or you can use a free service like Hootsuite or Buffer to schedule them in advance.

And there you have it! A quick overview of everything you need to know and do to leverage social media marketing for your business this year. Of course, while we have covered a lot in the last few weeks, there is also more information and topics you can dive into, so if you have any questions or need further guidance, we encourage you to post in the Facebook Leader’s Group so we can assist you.
