Keep Your Resolutions Alive

More often than not, we hear about people setting lofty goals for the new year, only to give up on them by the time February rolls around. But that doesn’t have to be the case this year. If you find that your motivation is beginning to dwindle, make it a priority to bring your resolutions back into focus each day. Sometimes, this is as simple as looking at yourself in the mirror each morning and repeating a mantra or goal out loud, but sometimes, especially in the beginning, you may need to give yourself a little more guidance. 

One of the most difficult parts of reaching your goals is starting the process. What do you need to do today to reach your goals by the end of the year? What can you do right now to help yourself get or stay on the right path? When all we can think about is the end goal, these questions can be hard to answer. That’s where the 3 to 5 principle comes into play. 

Essentially, the 3 to 5 principle helps you build your goals backward to give you a tangible list of action items that you can start doing right now to ensure you get on track and stay there. To get started, just answer these questions: 

  • What do you want to do in the next 3 to 5 years? 
  • What can you do in the next 3 to 5 months that will lead to that ending goal?
  • What can you do in the next 3 to 5 days to help you get there? 
  • What can you do in the next 3 to 5 minutes to move you in that direction? 

When you’ve answered all the questions, you should have a couple of action items that you can do today to start the process of achieving your goals, and you can go do them!

You are capable of sticking to your resolutions. You have a company that stands beside you and supports you, and we know that this is your year for greatness!
