Vol. 5 Issue 45-November 23, 2017
Planning is Essential Part 3: Goals
Last week we encouraged you to take time to think about what you would like to accomplish in 2018. You used your initial reflection to identify your habits, took the information gathered to identify your objectives for 2018 and will now use that information to create specific goals for 2018.
Goal setting is crucial for any business. Where would your business be today if you didn’t have anything to strive for? Goals will help keep you on track and move your New Earth business in a forward motion. The trick here is creating specific, timely goals.
What exactly is a timely goal? In short, it’s a goal with a deadline. As you define your goals, you will want to define short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals for both you and your team.
Here are a few specific questions you may want to address as you work to define your goals:
- How many people would I like to recruit this year? How many customers? How many associates? How many preferred customers?
- How many skills would I like to develop this year? What skills specifically?
- How many personal development books would I like to read this year? What books?
- How many personal development classes would I like to attend this year? What topics?
- What culture do I need to foster among my team to create an environment for success?
- What systems do I need in place for duplication?
- How many team members would I like to see at corporate events this year? How many events?
- How many associates would I like to see added to my team this year?
As you answer these questions your goals for 2018 will begin to become clear. Start with your long-term goals and break them down into bite-sized pieces to define your mid-term and then your short-term goals.
Chances are by now you have a document that ranges from 5-10 pages. It includes a clear picture of how 2017 went, what you did well, where you want to improve, and patterns in your life. It looks towards the future and identifies how you would like to grow on a personal level and business level. It identifies your long-term, mid-term and short-term goals. It provides a solid base for success in 2018.
So now what? Use this information to develop a plan. Determine what actions will be required on your part to accomplish your goals. Revisit this document frequently and update it as necessary. Remember, this is a living, breathing document, it may change throughout the year.
You can create your best year yet on both a personal and professional level. You can change your life in 2018.
